I recommend Munster Abbey to anyone who is seriously looking for a German Shepherd bred to the correct standards. I came across them 16 years ago when I was searching for a new German Shepherd. After going through 5 breeders locally, I decided to take a chance and call Munster Abbey. I was immediately impressed with them when over the phone and set up a visit to their Kennel as soon as possible. All the other breeders I came across, were substandard with cleanliness, knowledge, and wouldn't offer any guarantee of health. Upon arrival, I was given a tour of the Kennel, which is prestine, and I spent an hour or more with Larry going over why I would be a good recipient of one of their dogs. He spent time interviewing ME, making sure I was worthy of taking one of their babies! I was looking for a companionship dog, and was fortunate that a litter was due shortly. So I scheduled another visit when they were available, and was able to sit, touch, play, with the pups and able to choose what would become my Eva, best friend money could buy! I got compliments constantly on how beautiful Eva was, and her demeanor and intelligence was always impressive. A true companion. I could not have picked out a better fit for my needs. Upon her passing, and some time to grieve, I knew I would return to Munster Abbey for my next friend. I watched litter availability and we again returned to their kennel. Which was still pristine!!! With all the dogs they have and pups, you would not believe how clean that kennel is kept! They love their dogs!!! I was greeted happily by Donna and Larry. We met the litter of Bella and Rock and played with all the pups, and I chose my Sabena from that litter. There were other litters available, but these Donna recommended were a better fit for my needs of companionship. No pressure though, I could have said no to any of the pups and waited for another litter to become available. Sabena was completely different than my Eva, with a lot more energy as a pup. But, as responsible owner I needed to flex to what her training needs were, and respond correctly. For example, Eva I could leave outside playing with my other dog, and she wouldn't do anything wrong, where as Sabena would like to dig and bite branches, get into mischief. Everyone can agree that puppies do need to grow up and if you allow them to become aggressive, it only gets worse as they get bigger. Sabena is the new love in our lives, 4 years old now, and keeps me company, as well as my 82 year old mother, our cat, and mini dachshund. I would highly recommend Munster Abbey for those who are serious in finding a true friend, and let Larry and Donna guide you through the process. They run a very professional kennel, know their breed, love each litter as if it were their first, and keep it down to earth for people like me who just want a big mushy German Shepherd!
